2023 Primary Election | Recount

A recount has been requested for the August 1, 2023 Primary Election for the UG Commissioner District 3 Race.

Candidates that request a recount must post a bond for the estimated cost of the recount. This afternoon, our office has received the bond from the requestee.

The recount was requested to be conducted by hand, and is scheduled to start at 8:00 a.m. Monday, August 14th at the Wyandotte County Election Office.

The Recount Canvass will take place on August 16th at 10:00 a.m. at the Wyandotte County Election Office.

On August 16th, 2023 at 10:00 a.m., the Board of County Canvassers certified the results of the 2023 Primary Election Recount Results. As required by Kansas Law, a trained Election Board was appointed to hand count all 745 ballots cast for the Unified Government Commissioner District 3 Race. During this process the appointed Election Board determined that there was an additional vote cast for candidate Bette McGill, resulting in a tie between Bette McGill and Tina M. Medina. It is vital to highlight the meticulousness of the recount ensured that every single ballot was accounted for, and the change was a result of a determination by the Election Board between an Undervote and a Vote for the candidate.

As required by Kansas Law, the Board of County Canvassers determined the winner of the tie by lot (coin toss). Tina M. Media was declared the winner by lot, and will move onto the General Election Ballot. Election results for the 2023 Primary Election are available on WycoVotes.org
